Steps to getting your website:
Content, Keywords and Search Engine Ranking
Content is king. However, interest content is not enough on it own.
Your website's content has to be written in a fairly specific style. Think about what phrases people will search for, and consider how they may integrate into your web site.
- Assemble a list of keywords (about 20 - 30) which sum up your site, avoiding "cool, awesome" and other such language (when was the last time you typed in "Awesome ladies' shoes" into Google?). There are tools which can analyse the keyword frequency of your online content to tell you what search engines will pick up on.
- Write 2 or 3 sentences of text describing your site, eg. "Ladies' shoes in all sizes and colours made locally in the UK". This sort of strapline is usually included in the "Meta" information in a page. You won't see it, but search engines and other computers will.
As part of the service in setting up your new website, we also submit the site to the various online directories, as well as creating sitemaps in XML format which can then be submitted to Google to make sure they get to all of your pages.
Links to your site
As well as making sure you have good content, search engines such as Google can rate your importance on how many quality websites are linking to you.
If your site is part of a group of similar, like minded sites, it may be helpful to arrange a link to your site from theirs. However, don't be pushy, and don't take it personally if people ignore you: popular sites will have lots of requests a day. By contributing to other sites, such as blogs of like minded people, you may end up in a position where it seems appropriate to ask for a link back. Whatever you do, don't just spam other sites asking for a reciprocal link exchange; nothing is more annoying.
